This is my last interview of the year and I am so pleased to end the year with it. *Happy dance* .
Meet Lola Akinmade Åkerström…
Lola is an award winning photographer, traveller and writer who is based in Stockholm, Sweden. Her work has been featured in National Geographic, BBC, CNN, amongst so many others. Click to visit her website.
I don’t remember how I came across Lola’s work, but I remember I was compelled to add her on Facebook and tell her I liked what she was doing way back when (probably 2009). This probably had something to do with the fact that I was inspired to see a young Nigerian woman doing something so unique with her life.
I was also impressed because she seemed to be doing the balancing act very gracefully- balancing different projects, family, friendships and a career that all span so many countries.
Of course you can’t resist her signature jumping pictures and her smile too- you can tell she loves life and that is always special to see.
We recently got to chat about Lola’s story.
I have to say that I was really thankful to have met her; she was very warm, very down to earth and very engaging and our conversation was a good balance of inspiration and practicality. I got to meet her beautiful daughter Emelie as well so you will hear her every now and then during the interview.
Here are some things that Lola and I chatted about which I think will be useful to you:
How to gracefully transition into a life and career that are centred around purpose.
A practical and insightful approach to finding a sense of identity detached from status.
How she makes an instant connection with people in her work and how you can do it too.
Unique insights on being human which she has gathered from exploring many cultures.
How she pushes past personal boundaries and external limitations placed on her.
Many more stories and nuggets of wisdom
Enjoy; and do share the insights you got out of it with me in a comment.
